Tesla files three trademark’s in a bid to expand into restaurant services

Soon this will be possible as the world’s most powerful luxury electric car company, Tesla has filed a trademark for restaurant services in a bid to expand its amenities around the current charging facilities.

Back in 2017, the then Chief Technology Officer, JB Straubel pre-empted at an FSTEC restaurant-technology conference that the company has expressed thoughts of moving into the restaurant business. The original idea was to convert electric charging stations into convenience stores that also serve food.

Later, Tesla CEO, Elon Musk expressed how the automaker plans to diversify into the industry in 2018. Stating that he plans to “old-school drive-in, roller skates & rock restaurant at one of the new Tesla Supercharger locations in Los Angeles.”

Shortly after Musk stayed true to his words and his eclectic taste for innovative change when it was reported that the company applied for building permits for “a restaurant and Supercharger station” in Santa Monica.

In support of this Tesla applied for three new trademarks that use the ‘Tesla’ brand in the restaurant business In a May 27 filing with the United States Patent and Trademark Office that was first reported by Electrek. The application is not due for review until the end of August.

This comes after the Tesla CEO said he plans to open a 50’s style diner by April next year.

In hindsight, this sounds like a match made in heaven. Tesla restaurants could team up with other food providers who are more experienced in the industry. Together they can work to provide high-quality food made with green energy. Another viable partnership is the use of Tesla charging stations at restaurant car parks which will no doubt be present at the Tesla restaurant itself.
