UK’s top female entrepreneurs backed by government to help boost economy post-COVID

The UK government is to back top female entrepreneurs across the country as part of the recovery path to rebuilding the economy post COVID.

Forty leading female innovators are set to receive funds through Innovate UK’s Women in Innovation scheme to help scale up and tackle global challenges. Each visionary woman is expected to receive a cash injection of £50,000 and bespoke mentoring to scale up and bring to market their disruptive business ideas.

Science Minister Amanda Solloway said:

“As we build back better from COVID, it is a priority of mine to continue equipping our brightest female innovators with the tools they need to succeed while encouraging a new generation of women to come forward and pursue their ambitions. We are supporting 40 of our most trailblazing female entrepreneurs, helping them to turn their innovative ideas and aspirations into a reality, creating the products and services that will help improve our lives and boost our economy.”

Innovations such as creating green technology and emergency apps to help those suffering domestic abuse are some examples of start-ups that females are taking the lead in. The entrepreneurs that are included in the women in innovation scheme are:

Innovate UK launched Women in Innovation in 2016, after research revealed that just one in seven applications for Innovate UK support came from women. Boosting the number of female entrepreneurs could deliver £180 billion to the economy.
