Former OpenAI CEO Sam Altman joins Microsoft
Reports suggest that Sam Altman will not resume his role as the CEO of OpenAI, the developer behind ChatGPT, as attempts to reinstate him were unsuccessful. The non-profit board of OpenAI has instead appointed Emmett Shear, the co-founder of Twitch – the video streaming site, as the third CEO in three days, according to various sources.
Altman was dismissed on Friday, following accusations of not being “consistently candid in communications,” which has created ripples in Silicon Valley. In response, OpenAI’s investors, led by Microsoft, spearheaded efforts to reinstate Altman. However, talks to reverse the decision took place over the weekend and proved unsuccessful. Altman even shared a picture on social media wearing a guest pass outside OpenAI’s offices during this period.
However, recent news shows that Microsoft has hired Sam Altman and Greg Brockman to head up a team that will conduct AI research. Microsoft, OpenAI’s key backer, shared that they “remain committed to our partnership with OpenAI and have confidence in our product roadmap, our ability to continue to innovate,” wrote Nadella.
